CDS Export Solution launched on Thyme-IT
The Thyme-IT system has been updated to support UK CDS export declarations.
The way you make export declarations is changing
HMRC is gradually introducing the Customs Declaration Service, the long-term replacement for the current Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system. From 30 November 2023, all export declarations are due to be made through the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
The Thyme-IT CDS Export solution is ready and we already have customers submitting live entries and also engaging with the HMRC CDS Trader Dress Rehearsal service (TDR).
What is included in the CDS Export solution from Thyme-IT?
You can choose from three different options to create declarations with the Thyme-IT user-friendly UK export solution. These include uploading files via XML, XLS or manual entry with the help of tailored templates.
Customers can also combine this solution with Thyme-IT’s Direct HMRC Solution, which provides a direct link to HMRC for submitting non-inventory linked UK customs declarations.
To ensure a smooth transition to CDS exports, Thyme-IT’s support team is available to assist users regardless of the option they choose.

When is CHIEF closing completely?
HMRC will be closing the CHIEF system completely on 30 November 2023. From this date, all businesses in the UK will need to declare goods through the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
- From May 2023: HMRC will contact declarants who submit the highest number of export declarations where only GVMS is used.
- From July 2023: HMRC will contact all export declarants to make sure they’re ready to make declarations through CDS.
- From September 2023: CDS will support all routes and all export declarants can submit their declarations.
- After 30 November 2023: All export declarations must be made through CDS.
What do you need to do to prepare ahead of CDS Export?
To prepare for CDS, businesses need to ensure they have completed the following steps:
- Apply for an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number
- Obtain a Unique Taxpayer Reference number
- Register for a Government Gateway account
- Subscribe to CDS so you will be able to submit CDS declarations from Thyme-IT
